Lykes Brothers blanks Beef ‘O’Brady’s, 2-0

The Dixie Youth baseball 30/30 group opened play Saturday, Feb. 22, at Lake June Park with Lykes Brothers blanking Beef ‘O’Brady’s, 2-0. 30/30 baseball is a new concept for the Dixie Youth League. It’s for boys and girls ages 5 and 6 who have advanced in their skills beyond the Tee Ball phase. The pitcher’s mound is located 30 feet from home plate and a specially-designed pitching machine serves the ball up at precisely 30 miles per hour.

In this game, Lykes loaded the bases in the first inning on singles by Cason Boley, Lars Lanfier and Amariah Fannin but failed to score as the next three batters struck out. Lykes pushed its two runs across the plate in the third as Boley and Lanfier singled and scored on hits by Fannin and Weston Holmes.

Jumpin’ Beans defeat Beef ‘O’Brady, 8-0

In Saturday’s second game of 30/30, the Jumpin’ Beans prevailed over Beef ‘O’Brady’s, 8-0. The Beans leaped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Jamison Pollard and August Stivender singled and scored. Two more runs came home for the winners in the second in the persons of Ethan Bush and Dallas Gross. A four-run rally in the third, which featured hitting by Stivender, Thomas Allaire, Hannah Holmes and Ethan Bush, put the game out of reach. Beef ‘O’Brady’s Kenny Fritz had a single for the restaurateurs in the bottom of the first.
