It was a “love” match for the Lake Placid Lady Dragons as they blanked the DeSoto Bulldogs, 7-0, in a match played here Tuesday, Feb. 25. For those learning the game of tennis, “love,” referring to zero comes to us from the French “l’oeuf” or “the egg.”
So it was, as the Lady Green administered the egg to the girls from Arcadia. Playing in the Dragons’ number one singles position, senior Hannah Waller won over Yaletza Palafox, 8-0, in a pro-set. Claire LeBlanc defeated Viviana Maldonado 8-1. Rachel Shattler, playing number three on the ladder, stopped Elizabeth Reyes 8-0. Abigail Campbell, Lady Dragon freshman playing number four singles, decisioned Bonnie Evans, 8-2, and Camille Shattler, Lake Placid’s number five singles player, defeated Elizabeth Pacheco by the same tally.
In doubles Waller and LeBlanc won over Yaletza and Maldonado 8-0 and Rachel Shattler teamed with Campbell for a win in number two doubles.
The wisdom of playing the girls’ match in pro-sets was proved when rain came and washed out the tail end of the Lady Green’s doubles competition as well as the entire boys’ match against DeSoto.
