The Lake Placid Green Dragon varsity baseball team suffered one of those “close but no cigar” events Monday evening, Feb. 24, in a 1-0 loss to Lakeland Christian in a game played there.
The hosts were able to score once in the bottom of the first as their Marcus Stump tripled to center field and scored on an error. Stump would also have a hit in the fifth.
Meanwhile, Lake Placid pitcher, Jacob Cram, gave the Green Dragons a fine effort on the mound. After giving up the run in the first, Cram pitched two-hit ball the next six innings, striking out nine, walking one and hitting a batter.
His team did some hitting behind him, just failing to score. Tyler Carr had a single in the first. Paul Cantwell smacked a hit in the second. Laine Daum had a single in the third and was cut down trying to score from third base. Cram endeavored to aid his cause with a double in the fourth inning but was left stranded at second when the side was retired.
