Rotary remains unbeaten in Ozone league

The rain subsided long enough for the Sebring Dixie Ozone league to get in two games last Thursday night.

The Rotary improved their record to 3-0 with a 5-1 win over the Elks, who fell to 0-2 on the season.

The Firemen also picked up their first win of the season by topping Hornick Homes 11-5.

The Firemen with the win improve to 1-1 while Hornick Homes drops to 0-2.

In the game between the Rotary and the Elks, the Elks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Cope Brewer reached on a leadoff walk and later scored.

Rotary tied the game in the bottom half of the first after Gunner Leonard singled and scored on a two-out double by Blayne Huter.

The Rotary scored twice in both the second and third innings to seize a 5-1 lead.

In the second inning, Zachary Taylor singled to drive in Tyson Bentley and Zachary Miller to put the Rotary up 3-1.

Kevin Myers led off the third inning with a double, followed by a walk to Leonard resulted in both players scoring later in the inning to take a 5-1 lead.

Huter, Leonard and Hunter Vanderpool each pitched two innings, in that respective order, to hold the Elks scoreless over the last five innings to preserve the 5-1 win for the Rotary.

The Firemen came out with hoses on full blast against Hornick Homes as they scored six runs on two errors, three walks, one hit batter and two hits by Mason Price and singles by Ty Martz and T.J. Granata.

They expanded their lead to 9-0 in the fourth inning.

With one out, Robert Spoone walked and stole second base. He scored on a single by Keyshawn Hicks for the first run of the inning. Hicks scored on an error on a ground ball by Martz to the Hornick Homes third baseman for the second run.

The Firemen capped off the scoring when Martz reached second on a stolen base and scored on a single by Landon Baker for the third run to put the Firemen up 9-0.

Hornick Homes scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, but the Firemen regained their nine run lead in the top of the sixth as singles by Hicks, Martz and Dustin Drake accounted for two runs as the Firemen led 11-2.

Hornick Homes scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Firemen pitching walked the bases loaded with one out. A two out error brought in one run and a single plated two more before the Firemen could extinguish the flame and salvage an 11-5 over Hornick Homes.

On Friday night, Rotary holds a 4-1 lead over Pool Paradise in the third inning. Game was suspended due to weather and will conclude at a later date yet to be determined.

Monday, May 12 — Elks vs. Pool Paradise and Hornick Home vs. Rotary.

Tuesday, May 13 — Elite Plumbing vs. Hornick Homes and Firemen vs. Rotary.
