Signs of Domestic Abuse class offered

From 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in room 512 at First Baptist Church, will be a special class on the signs of domestic abuse.

Some of the signs are: name calling (male or female), separation from family and friends, financial control, and others.

Speakers will include survivors of domestic abuse and will offer information, handouts and a question/answer time. A video will also be shown. Someone you know, a friend, family member, neighbor or co-worker, may need this class, says one of the coordinators, Mary Mills. “Inviting them may save their life,” she says. Dinner is at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Find help, hope and healing. Dinner is free for first time visitors. Frostproof Car Wash

There will be a Craft Show and Car Wash from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the First United Methodist Church of Frostproof. The church is located at 150 Devane St. in Frostproof. There will be food, baked goods, Christmas items, Trust Again Pet Shelter, and much more. For information, contact 863-635-3107.

Lake Wales VFW Post 2420 Yard Sale

The community is invited to a yard sale and craft bazaar at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2420 at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Post is at 200 W. Central Ave., Lake Wales. Handmade items, Mary Kay, Avon, jewelry, live plants, and door prizes will be featured. The event is open to the public.

Coffee and Conversation

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 at Care Center Youth Coffee House on 205 E. Park Ave., the American Association of University Women invites women of downtown Lake Wales to join them for wine, coffee, snacks and conversation.

Battle of the Guns and Hoses

The Green & Gold Foundation has planned the Battle of the Guns and Hoses, between the Lake Wales Police Department and the Lake Wales Fire Department, Saturday, Nov. 16.

This annual barbecue is a fundraiser to benefit the B Street Community Service Center, and runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Meal tickets are $8 for a BBQ ribs dinner, $8 for a pulled pork plate, $2 for hot dogs with chips and a cookie. Delivery is available for orders of over eight meals, within a 10 mile radius. To order, call 863-224-2877 or 863-676-8986. Celebrity chefs are the Police Chief Chris Velasquez and Fire Chief Jerry Brown, or their designees. The event will be held at Candlelight Christian Academy at the corner of State Road 17 (Scenic Highway) and Sessoms Avenue. There will be a ’50s Car Show from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Children’s activities will be provided. The Battle begins at noon, with judging and awards to follow.
