If you looked at the Lake Wailes pier and thought something was missing — not to worry, the much loved gazebo will return.
Rather, gazebo number two.
The first gazebo was built when the pier was built, which according to Teresa Allen, the city’s public and support services director, has been at least 15 years ago.
She said she’s not sure of the exact date of its original construction, as it might not have been a capital project.
“The gazebo was in very bad condition and removed for safety purposes,” she said, by phone, Monday.
And will this be one of the city’s projects that gets tumbled through the dryer of commission approval, waiting on various elements of the project?
She notes “It’s already in the budget.”
Allen said city officials had made numerous repairs to the structure, and because of its deteriorated condition, it had to go.
She says the city was waiting for the new budget to pass so they could begin planning the new gazebo.
The only thing the city will have to do now is compare prices for construction.
