The Vanguard School rang in its December break with drama and charity on Dec. 18.
Students from Liliana Marshall’s drama class performed a stage rendering of Dr. Seuss’s classic tale, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In the lead role as the Grinch himself, student Patrick Keating led the cast of Vanguard students to rousing audience applause as students, faculty, staff, and community members attended the exciting holiday performance in the Dr. Cathy Wooley-Brown Performing Arts Center.
To conclude the big day of festivities, a dinner was held in honor of a local family in need. There, a Lake Wales mother and her two young sons were presented with gifts from Santa, including groceries and necessities as well as toys for the children. The family was identified by the Lake Wales Care Center, and this is the fourth year the school has partnered with the local nonprofit to help provide a merry Christmas to the family. The school’s basketball team served as waiters to the family during the dinner, and the evening was completed by an appearance of the costumed character Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Students’ last day at the Vanguard School before winter break was Friday, Dec. 20. School at Vanguard will resume Jan. 6.
