After eight decades of serving the community, Chalet Suzanne Restaurant and Country Inn is closing its doors, and its owners, Eric and Denise Hinshaw, are retiring.
According to a letter sent to The Lake Wales News by the Hinshaws, they will be open until Aug. 4.
“It’s been a long, wonderful season in time. Well, over eighty years, in fact,” Eric Hinshaw said.
“There have been so many great things that have happened at Chalet Suzanne through that period. Hundreds of accolades,” Hinshaw noted, adding that they have been on the list of the Top Ten Inns in America.
Five generations of Hinshaws have been born since the enterprise started.
“We’ve developed friendships with celebrities, dignitaries, astronauts, war heroes and many wonderful people with a special
celebrity of their own,” Hinshaw noted.
He said the time has come to “let go of our love affair with this wonderful creation of Bertha Hinshaw and her family.”
The Hinshaws are retiring and selling the property, looking for “other opportunities to serve the community and the Lord,” said the letter.
Reservations for lunch, dinner or overnight will be accepted through Aug. 4.
The Hinshaws urge anyone who wants a last chance to experience the Chalet to not delay.
They are also offering their rooms for an overnight/dinner combination from now until Aug. 4.
“You don’t have to have a room to enjoy dinner, but you have to have dinner to enjoy the room,” Hinshaw said, noting that an added bonus to their overnight guests is a 10 percent discount on their entrees.
Chalet Suzanne is located at 319 Starr Avenue in Lake Wales.
