Christy Stevens used to be a massage therapist, but says she really loves "the business side" of things, so patients will be greeted with a friendly smile when they come for treatment.

It is new and open for business.

Jahna Chiropractic will hold a ribbon-cutting and open house at their new office at Shoppes on the Ridge, located at 23857 Hwy. 27 in Lake Wales, on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 4:30 p.m., followed by an open house.

Services provided at Jahna Chiropractic include family wellness care, treatment of neck and back pain, Sciatica, headaches, sports injuries, auto accidents, nutritional and supplemental advice, and weight loss and cleansing programs.

Dr. Marcus Jahna says he enjoys what he does.

“Just helping people in general. Just specific chiropractic, I’m not out on call on the weekends. I can be more personal with the patients. We can make our own hours, it’s kind of nice.”

The benefits of chiropractic care, he notes, as compared to seeing a medical doctor, is that many of them “want to give you a bunch of prescriptions and medications to cover up the problem and not fix it. Whereas in chiropractic, we are trying to fix it and get you permanent, lasting relief.”

He added, “We don’t only want to get you better, we want to keep you better through nutrition, get you exercising, just having a healthy lifestyle altogether.”

Jahna was born and raised in Lake Wales, went to school in North Carolina for four years and he practiced in Winter Haven for two years at Smith Chiropractic, under Rick Smith as an associate.

“And I just came back to Lake Wales, to be closer to home and where I grew up.”

Samantha Gillingham, massage therapist, smiles and says she likewise enjoys her occupation.

“I want to heal them from the inside out and not give them any medicine to hinder them,” she said.

She does a lot of deep tissue massage therapy, neuromuscular re-education.

“It really works well with chiropractic care, to do both of them,” Jahna notes. “It speeds recovery.”

Then there is Christy Stevens, office manager, who has an extensive background in massage therapy and has worked at day spas and her own business.

But she says she is a “paperwork” kind of person.

“I like the business side of it,” she says.

Jahna Chiropractic accepts most major medical insurances. They are also Medicare providers.

If someone has an insurance not on their list, all they have to do is call Stevens and she will see if Jahna can be added as a provider to that insurance.

Jahna notes, “Our main thing is just general family wellness and care, but we will do personal injury, auto accidents, sports injury, stuff like that.”

“And also we provide a cash discount for people who do not have insurance,” Jahna said. “It’s a national program you join, so we keep our fee schedule, that way we can legally give them a cash discount.”

The ribbon-cutting will be at 4:30 p.m. Catering will be provided by Pedro Cartagena and The Down Town Deli.
