Lake Placid made ‘Wishing Tree’ a Christmas success
The early part of December, New 2 U Thrift Store made available a “Wishing Tree” for anyone to pick a child’s name from the tree, to provide gifts on Christmas morning. During this experience, I personally witnessed the peaceful, loving soul of this beautiful town I call home.
So many people stepped forward to assist in this project, from giving gifts to wrapping gifts to assisting in the delivery of gifts. Being mindful of the sacrifices made by some others would have joy truly brought the meaning of the birth of Christ the King and sacrifice that would soon be made.
“To whom much is given, must is required” ... is reminiscent of a group of people in our community that support many of our town’s cultural and holiday celebrations. The Lake Placid Jaycees, represented by Vicki Spires, stepped up and “paid it forward” by delivering funds to purchase many of the gifts that were received on Christmas morning.
A small band of brothers and sisters that make up a special group cannot be overlooked. Coz’s Sports Bar & Bowl rallied staff and loyal supporters and made a fantastic final push with toys, bicycles, and even frozen turkeys for Christmas dinners. Dave Ridley, Delores McDaniels and Herb “Pa” Phelan were Santa’s Chief Elves this year,
I am really proud of everyone’s effort, and I’m so glad I chose the Town of Lake Placid as my home.
Paying it forward …
