Mrs. Katherine Ann “Kate” Loyd, 85, of Lake Wales, Fla., died on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Sommers Hospice House in Sebring, of heart failure.

She was born on July 28, 1928, in Williamsport, Pa., and moved to Lake Wales 28 years ago from Winter Haven. She was a surgical technician at Lake Wales Hospital for 11 years until retirement in 1988.

She loved entertaining and performing on stage and had a passion for singing, composing, and tap dancing. She had been active in Lake Wales Little Theater with many starring roles such as “On Golden Pond,” “Marrying Walt,” and “The Sound of Music,” and was a founding member of The Sassy Singers, singing with them for 20 years.

Memberships include the Lake Wales Woman’s Club, Music Club, Lake Wales Chorale, and she was a soloist for the Christian Science Society. She was of the Protestant faith.

Kate is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years, Terry Loyd, and children Honora, Scott, Victoria, and Jay.

Services will be announced. Inurnment will be made at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland.
