William C. ‘Bill’ Jones

William C. “Bill” Jones, 78, of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at his residence.

He was born April 30, 1935, in Spencer, W.Va., to Alva and Ada (Harper) Jones and had been a resident of the area for 13 years moving here from Lancaster, Ohio. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Bill enjoyed fishing, swimming, was an artist in painting, enjoyed reading his Bible, he was an avid Ohio State football fan, and guitarist who played in a band.

Bill was a veteran of Korea and the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Air Force; following his military service, he worked at Ralston-Purina Corp. and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hilda J. Jones; daughters, Dr. Pamela Jones of Lake Wales and Brandi Jones of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sons, Harvey (Becky) Jones of Hide-A-Way Hills, Ohio, and Curtis Jones of Lancaster, Ohio; sisters, Mary Snyder of Akron, Ohio, Barbara “Barb” Conley of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Wilma Reynolds; brothers, Ray Jones of Granbury, Texas, and Robert Jones of Elyria, Ohio; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Durham officiating. Interment will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time.
