Charles Chester Meyer Sr., of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Winter Haven Hospital.
He was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Frostproof to Fred and Eliza Meyer; and has been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired construction superintendent, a member of the Church of God in Frostproof and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan and loved his pet dog, Dusty. He enjoyed flowers and his wife was seldom without roses.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris Meyer; daughter, Vanessa O’Loane; son, Charles Chester Meyer Jr; six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lois Meyer; son, Fred Meyer of Frostproof; son-in-law, Vern “Cookie” O’Loane of Birmingham, Ala.; many nephews and nieces; stepson, Barry Dodson and wife, Robin of Richburg, S.C.; stepdaughter, Lynn Laughter and husband, Ben of Dalton, Ga.; seven step-grandchildren, Judson, Mark, Mary Lynn, Drew, Kent, Robert and Dia; and five step-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Graveside service was held 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof with Rev. Rodney Cannon officiating.
