Ruth A. Atkins, 88, passed away early Saturday morning, June 7, 2014, at the Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, following an extended illness.

She was born on June 27, 1925, in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Brees) Pence.

Ruth attended Muncie Central High School and married the love of her life, Lloyd Atkins, and they were married in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Atkins had been a homemaker most of her adult life and had also worked for Ross Supermarket in the housewares, clothing and laundry departments. She loved taking care of her family and bowling at the Liberty Bowl on various leagues. Ruth enjoyed Elvis music as well.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Terry, Muncie; two sons, Jerry Atkins (wife-Sherry), Frostproof, Fla., and Lloyd W. “Buster” Atkins (wife-Carolyn), Frostproof, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joanne Quinton (husband-Arnold), Bluffton; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Lloyd Atkins; four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor J.R. Sutliff officiating. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.
