Orville W. Dawes, 79, of Frostproof, Fla., passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell due to cancer.

He was born June 4, 1935, to Willie Q. and Veda (Arnold) Dawes and has been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired office manager for the Ben Hill Griffin Fertilizer Company, a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Frostproof.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Sandra J. Dawes of Frostproof; daughter, Denise Shirley and husband, Rick, of Webster, Fla.; sons, Greg Dawes and wife, Debby, of Orlando, Fla., Glen Dawes and wife, Theresa, of Pasadena, Calif.; sisters, Geral Marie Allison of Bowling Green, Fla., Yvonne Peavy of Lakeland, Fla.; brother, Ken Dawes of Vero Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Allen Shirley and wife, Desa, Ryan Shirley and wife, Anna , Kyle Dawes and wife, Sarah, Katelyn Acevedo and husband, Alex, Lynnea Dawes, Tucker Dawes, Alexia Dawes and three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Shirley, Rylee Shirley, Austin Shirley.

Visitation is 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, until service time at 2 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church in Frostproof with the Rev. Darrol Hood officiating.

Interment is at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to 1st Baptist Church Memorial fund at 96 West B Street, Frostproof, FL 33843.
