Imagine, if you will, contestants scratching and clawing their way through a competition that requires nothing more of them than to dress up and mouth song lyrics.

Turns out, it’s no fantasy. It’s the Lip Sync Showdown to benefit the Animal Welfare League. The third annual event is scheduled to be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Elks Lodge, 1133 Capricorn Blvd., Punta Gorda.
