The music and atmosphere of the 1940s Swing Era is alive and well at Venice Theatre.
For three exciting nights, the MainStage will be filled with the authentic sounds of the musicians and vocalists who defined an American era. The American Swing Experience is ready to close out 2017 and “swing” in 2018 with performances on Friday, Dec. 29, Saturday, Dec. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 31. Showtime is 8 p.m. each evening. The American Swing Experience is led by veteran big band trumpeter and singer David Pruyn. His group is made up entirely of current and former members of the modern-day versions of the true “name” big bands who faithfully recreate one great hit after another. Audiences will hear the music and iconic solos of Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and more. Vocalist Michele James-Pruyn joins her husband David to effortlessly pay tribute to the most beloved singers of the time: Helen Forrest, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Helen O’Connell, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Dick Haymes, Ray Eberle, Nat Cole and Mel Torme.
