Celebrate Mother Earth in Englewood with eco-friendly crafts, health conscious fun foods, educational demos and games, and live music by high energy alternative band, Babyl. This Fourth Annual Earth Day Festival, taking place at Buchan Park, is being presented by The Barrier Island Parks Society (BIPS) and The Open Studio (TOS) whose mission is to promote healthy living and sustainability. "So far fifty tented retail participants, three schools: Lemon Bay High School, Englewood Elementary, and Terra Nichol, and over fifteen nonprofit organizations will be taking part. We'll be offering assorted crafts for kids, and a live goat milking demonstration by the Peace River Wildlife Center based in Punta Gorda. Festival attendees will also learn how Wildlife Center volunteers and staff work to rehabilitate owls, opossums, and an assortment of injured wildlife," explained BIPS Executive Director Sharon McKenzie who is this year's committee chairman. Committee members include: Evelyn Dow Dales of TOS, Les Bernstein, owner of Rehab on Dearborn, Bret Clark, Esquire, and Shelly Thompson, BIPS member. Sponsors for this free event include: the Englewood CRA, Englewood Farmer's Market, Thoroughbred Golf Carts, Mango Bistro, Friends of Sarasota County Parks, and Englewood Home Grown Edible Landscapes. Drum Circle groups from Dance Inc., will perform during the festival and at the closing ceremony Speaker presentations will take place in the Deltec Building at the park. Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle will go toward the purchase of an ATV for Stump Pass Beach State Park. Earth Day 2018 in Englewood will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Buchan Park, located next to Buchan Airport, 1390 Old Englewood Road, Englewood. Dearborn Street, Englewood, will celebrate Earth Day by featuring wines from France, Chile, Argentina, Italy, Spain and California. "We selected only organic and/or sustainably grown wines for this event. Attendees are invited to taste wines at four stations as they enjoy tasty and healthy hors d'oeuvres prepared by Chef Katrina," said Vino Loco owner, Joyce Colmar.
