When Ron Davis brought up the possibility of organizing a Run to the Wall event similar to one that takes place every Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C. local American Legion post members, Harley Davidson dealership owners, and Punta Gorda city officials welcomed the idea. “As Road Captain for American Legion Riders Post 103, I’m inviting everyone, not just motorcyclists, to honor our veterans and remember the fallen at a first ever Run to the Wall of Southwest Florida taking place on Sunday, May 27,” explained Davis.

Those wishing to participate in Run to the Wall activities should arrive at 12:30 p.m. at Veterans Park located inside Laishley Park, 120 Laishley Court, Punta Gorda, where American Legion groups will provide patriotic music, an Honor Guard with a 21 gun salute, and the playing of TAPS to remember the fallen. Local singer and Master of Ceremonies, Ray Leventhal, will sing the National Anthem and introduce speakers Gary Wein, Punta Gorda’s Vice Mayor, and two prominent citizens who were instrumental in the installation of Punta Gorda’s memorial wall a year and a half ago-Michael Raymond, and General Dick Carr.
