It’s holiday movie time! “The Best Man Holiday” may not entirely fit the perception of a true holiday movie, but it does work. Most of the time.
The film was written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Spike Lee’s cousin) and is a long-awaited follow up to “The Best Man,” a hit in 1999. Amazingly, the entire original cast returns for this one. It’s all about 40-something college friends reuniting at the home of one of them, a wealthy football star during the Christmas holidays. Old friendships, rivalries and past romances immediately surface. Lance the football player (Morris Chestnut) and Harper the writer (Taye Diggs) lead the way as the two with big issues to resolve. There are several other solid characters in this ensemble cast, though the one who provides the most comic relief is Quentin, played by Terrence Howard.
