Escaped convict and depressed divorcee fall in love over the Labor Day weekend. That’s pretty much the not-very-believable premise for the film “Labor Day.”

Written and directed by Jason Reitman (“Juno”) and based on a Joyce Maynard novel, the movie certainly includes touches of irony, poetic license and an ample dose of melodrama. It’s just not a very compelling love story.
