Some of the best musical events are those that bring together great performers with a worthy cause. On a national level, think Live Aid, Farm Aid and more.

Locally, there is the Punta Gorda Funk Fest, a lively annual concert now in its fifth year. Presented by Big Crush Productions, the event will be held this year on March 8 at Punta Gorda's City Marketplace. Concert coordinator Nick Nemeck says that though partial proceeds from the event always benefit a local charity, he feels that this year's beneficiary, Charlotte County-based Backpack Kidz, is especially in need.
