Plant City’s Strawberry Festival is an annual must on my personal road trip list.

It’s like a big county fair with a beauty pageant, nearly nonstop entertainment and — truckloads of strawberries and whipped cream with or without shortcake. It was created to celebrate the strawberry harvest in Eastern Hillsborough County. Now in its 79th year, the festival draws more than 500,000 visitors annually for the entertainment, midway, livestock shows, commercial exhibit and — strawberries.
