Tomorrow, the box office at Venice Theatre should have lines of patrons out the door and down the block even as its website crashed from too many ticket buyers for the aactWorldFest which will fill the theater stages, rehearsal rooms and more from June 16-21. See the release from Venice Theatre in today’s edition of Let’s Go and join one of these lines yourself. Who knows? If Venice Theatre does as good a job at hosting this worldwide theater conference as it did in 2010, the top-rated theater could become the permanent home of the festival. Go to as much of it as you can or volunteer for as much as you can. The laundry can wait.
Since there are so many art centers here on the cultural coast, here is an idea worth sharing from the Sarasota Art Center — a light bulb drive. The center is replacing its halogen bulbs with LED bulbs in the galleries track lights because the LED bulbs give a more even light spread and intensity and, I think, are also less costly to operate. Fewer bulbs are needed to light the same amount of wall space, according to the information on the center’s website — three LED bulbs do the work of five and “provide better lighting for the artwork.” To donate to the center, call 941-365-2032 and then steal the idea and do the same to the art center nearest to your home. What a wonderful, sharable idea!
