Cinco de Mayo is a very popular holiday in the United States, even though it is not largely observed in Mexico.

Instead, it's a date when Mexican-Americans, and everyone else, celebrate the long relationship between Mexico and the United States, which was much improved after thousands of Mexican citizens crossed the border to help support American troops after the Pearl Harbor bombing in 1941.
