Sarasota County’s spectacular circus history lives on in the wonderful Circus Museum at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in the many facets of the Circus Arts Conservatory’s Circus Sarasota, Sailor Circus and Laughter Unlimited and in Venice, where the Circus Arts Foundation, guided by Orlando Bevington and Tito Gaona continue efforts to preserve the old arena where The Greatest Show on Earth performed from 1960 to 1992 and where Clown College was founded in 1968. Because of these groups, various circuses perform throughout the year in our area. For many summers, Circus Sarasota and The Ringling have offered a summer circus spectacular on the stage of the Historic Asolo Theater in the Visitor Center of The Ringling, 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota.
This summer’s show is terrific with the Quick Change experts, the Smirnoffs: Queen of the Air Dolly Jacobs and award-winning hand balancer Christian Stoinev. Nobody can possibly do what he does — yet he does it. Another miracle — tickets are just $12-$15 and this summer, The Ringling is offering an amazing bonus. Summer Circus ticket holders can pay just $5 more and visit the Circus Museum at The Ringling. Purchase the museum bonus tickets in the Visitors Pavilion the day you attend the circus. Circus hours are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. each Saturday. Call 941-360-7399 or visit www.Ringling.Org.
