Sarasota’s Players Theatre turns 85 this year.
I thought that might make it the oldest “continuing operating community” theater in the state. I was wrong. That honor seems to go to St. Petersburg City Theatre founded four years earlier in 1925. Older still is the Jacksonville Little Theatre, founded in 1919, but it was not in continuous operation all those years. It had some time off in the 1930s.
