The City Council got some good news about the Venice Fishing Pier Tuesday: With some repairs, it can reopen for the season, though it will need to be closed again afterward for a major redo.
City Engineer Kathleen Weeden told the Council Tuesday that engineers have concluded the basic pier structure — the concrete pilings and stringers under the deck — are in good shape. With 12 or so planks of the deck replaced and some tightening of the railings, it will be safe for several months.
