SARASOTA COUNTY — Family members of Leron Hagins Jr. shed tears Friday when they learned he would serve 40 years in state prison, without the eligibility for parole, for the attempted murder of two North Port police officers in 2011.

Twelfth Circuit Judge Charles Roberts sentenced Hagins as an adult on Friday, following a September decision by a jury to find Hagins guilty of two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
