At 17, she had her son, pop susperstar Justin Bieber, and raised him as a single mom. Mallette came to the North Port church in the spring to tell her story.

NORTH PORT — South Biscayne Church, led by Pastor John Cross, marks its 40th year in North Port this month and will feature a special “homecoming” event at the church today at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.

“We’ll be having a former staff member, Dr. Jerry Gillis, coming back to preach,” Cross said. “He’s a very gifted preacher-teacher-leader. We’ll also have some talented singer/songwriters on hand, Benji and Jenna Cowart. It’ll be a fun time.”
