Transgender inmates pose challenge for county jail

Transgenders or cross dressers -- like this person, arrested last month in Sarasota for allegedly stabbing a person -- are often housed in protective custody when in jail.
When Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight announced last week his intent to close down the South County jail, located in the Venice Police Department building, one of the reasons was the growing number of detainees unable to be processed in Venice.
Among those are transgendered people.
