Cold shelters open tonight

Charlotte County: The following shelters will be opening tonight ahead of freezing temperatures: Additional cots are being placed at the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition, located at 1476 Kenesaw Street in Port Charlotte. In the Englewood area, the cold weather shelter of St. David’s Episcopal Church, 401 S. Broadway, Englewood will be open tonight at 6 p.m. and is located in the St. David’s Jubilee Center. Dinner and breakfast are provided. The shelter is located just over the county line into Sarasota County.

DeSoto County: A cold weather shelter is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. tonight in anticipation of tonight’s freezing temperatures. There will be limited food and the shelter will not accept pets. Turner Center Exhibit Hall, located at 2260 NE Roan Street in Arcadia, Florida 34266. For more information, call DeSoto County Emergency Management at 863-993-4831.
