ENGLEWOOD — A North Port man was critically injured Thursday evening when his truck flipped over and crashed into another truck parked at a home, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
According to a report, shortly before 6:30 p.m., Robert Jackson, 55, of North Port, was traveling east on Prospect Avenue near the intersection of Birchwood Street in Englewood. For unknown reasons, Jackson’s 2003 Ford F150 pickup veered off the road to the right, striking a mailbox at 9335 Prospect Ave., the FHP reported. Jackson then overcorrected, bringing the truck back onto the road to the left. The pickup spun around, entering the front yard of a home at 9350 Prospect and overturning. The truck landed upright and collided with a 1999 Ford F250 belonging to Werner Ottlinghaus, 77, that was parked at the residence. Jackson was not wearing a seat belt and suffered life-threating injuries, the report shows. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the report states. Charges are pending.
