Thursday night, the North Port High School class of 2014 earned nearly $3.4 million in scholarships. The Gulf Coast Community Foundation scholarships, worth $1,000, were awarded to seniors Aubrey Roe, Patrick Gomes, T.J. Badali and Shayne McKee.

Members of the class of 2014 who intend to enlist in the military each received checks representing the $80,000 they are elegible for through the G.I. Bill. Several also received an additional $11,000 signing bonus.

NORTH PORT — Seated in the back row, on the highest riser and farthest from the podium, Shayne McKee probably should have sat closer to the front of the stage during the May 22 Senior Awards Night ceremony in the North Port Performing Arts Center.

“They told him to sit up front,” his mom, Paddy, said later, smiling.
