SARASOTA COUNTY — This summer’s Campaign Against Summer Hunger, a partnership between All Faiths Food Bank, the Sarasota County School District, the Florida Department of Agriculture and a number of specially placed food distribution centers around South County, has been a great success so far, according to organizers.

The campaign consists of a two-pronged effort — free hot meals for children up to age 18 through Aug. 8, and frequent visits by the All Faiths’ Mobile Pantry, providing free food for needy families to prepare at home. The Mobile Pantry’s efforts are augmented by the occasional presence of Sprout, the “Veggie Mobile” — a refrigerated truck that provides fresh fruits and vegetables. The free meals are open to all local kids, with locations throughout Sarasota County, as well as one in Charlotte County and three in DeSoto.
