All six members of a human-smuggling organization — including one from Port Charlotte and two from North Port — now are awaiting sentencing.
A federal jury in Tampa on Wednesday found Yoel Emilio Baez-Hernandez, 41, guilty of conspiring to bring 73 Cuban immigrants to the Port Charlotte area illegally, from the Pinar del Rio Provence, U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III announced Thursday. Baez-Hernandez, of Hialeah, also was found guilty of successfully bringing 13 Cubans to Florida.
