Many grades slide
In the last year that school grades will be determined by student scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, the Sarasota County School District maintained its A grade, and Charlotte County its C. But some grades for individual schools fell in both districts.
The Florida Department of Education released the preliminary 2014 school grades for elementary, middle and combined schools on Friday. Grades are preliminary because high school grades — which take graduation rates and Advanced Placement exam scores into account — won’t be released until December. There is also a safety net in place so that schools do not drop more than one letter grade.
