Addressing a reader’s questions
Sun reader Jack Leschert of Port Charlotte is curious about street addresses, particularly why his address contains four digits and an address a couple blocks away has five digits.
The Answer Man was curious, too, on how addresses and street names are allocated. So he searched the web pages of the United States Postal Service for answers. Duh! Wrong place. The USPS allocates ZIP codes, but addresses and street names are the purview of local municipalities.
