Today, June 14, is Flag Day. While most of us are well-aware of the story, that in June of 1776, George Washington commissioned Betsy Ross, a local Philadelphia seamstress to create a flag for our new nation; that tidbit of American Folklore has never been fully substantiated.

Nevertheless, we began to fly the flag. The following year, June 14, 1777, some 237 years ago, we adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States of America. At that meeting of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Tom Adams said, “Resolved that the flag of the thirteen United States shall be 13 stripes, alternate red and white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
