By the year 2050, Punta Gorda is projected to have 132 more days per year with a heat index of 105 or greater, according to a recent study by nonprofit organization Climate Central.

That number places Punta Gorda at the top of the list for cities in the United States expected to see the biggest jump of what the study calls “Danger Days,” ahead of Fort Myers with 131 more days and Miami with 128 more days. Sarasota makes the Top 10 list with 112 more.
