NORTH PORT — While Charlotte and Sarasota officials argue over what is a fair amount each will pay for facility repairs to the Peace River/Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority water plant, North Port is caught in the middle and has its own battle to fight.
The city pays the water authority annually to buy up to 2.7 million gallons of water per day (it currently uses about 1.5 million gallons per day) — or about 9 percent of the total water used at the plant. The largest water user of the plant is Charlotte County, with about 90 percent. Sarasota County uses about 6 million gallons a day. DeSoto County uses less than 1 percent of the water at the plant.
