SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County commissioners followed the lead of their North Port counterparts Tuesday and unanimously voted to cancel Dr. Grigory Pogrebinsky’s bid to run the Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa — a move that could force it closed into the busy tourist season.
The vote follows the North Port City Commission’s unanimous decision from last week. Pogrebinsky was awarded the Springs contract by the city and the county, who jointly own the 81-acre property. The doctor delayed opening the day spa over what he called “life-safety” repairs, such as overhauling the septic system, repairing roofs and resolving mold issues that were discovered after the Springs’ closing on June 30. As a result, the doctor was seeking an extension of the 12-month, “as-is” contract to 24 months. Also at issue was the $100,000 bond that Pogrebinsky’s WMS Sarasota Management, LLC failed to produce, as stated in the contract.
