SARASOTA COUNTY — When Sarasota County commissioners fired Administrator Randall Reid Wednesday, they wasted no time in naming Deputy County Administrator Tom Harmer as the interim head who will oversee the county’s 3,200 employees and help implement policies.
Harmer, who was hired in July 2012 by Reid to eventually replace retiring deputy administrator Bill Little, has 27 years of public sector and local government experience in Florida. He served as fire chief when Reid was city manager in Titusville, Fla. He was also a deputy fire chief and city emergency manager in Tallahassee. He has experience in the design and operation of emergency operation center facilities.
