SARASOTA COUNTY — When interim Sarasota County Administrator Tom Harmer settled into his first official day in his new role on Monday, he had what amounted to about a three-minute lunch break.
As busy as Harmer expects to be over the course of the foreseeable future, that could become the norm for him as he works to help move the county forward after last week’s firing of administrator Randall Reid, who was let go for reasons including employee morale and budget concerns. County commissioners expressed their faith in Harmer’s ability Tuesday by unanimously granting him a six-month contract that calls for a raise and suspension of any search activities for a full-time replacement.
