SARASOTA COUNTY — After two years of debating whether she wanted to get involved with local government, Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations president Lourdes Ramirez officially threw her name in the pool of candidates running for Sarasota County Commission next year.
Ramirez, a 52-year-old resident of Siesta Key, will run for the District 4 seat currently held by Nora Patterson. Patterson, who has been in office since 1998, is being forced to give up her seat due to a 2012 Supreme Court ruling on term limits. Ramirez, a Republican, is the second candidate to file for the seat, joining fellow Republican Alan Maio, who filed in January.
