North Port resident Eric Kotte is using his van to advertise efforts to reopen the Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa. Kotte detailed his van to send a message to Sarasota County commissioners on the right side, and one to the North Port City Commission on the left side, asking them to save the Springs.

NORTH PORT — Dozens of signs reading “Save Our Springs” and “Open Warm Mineral Springs Now” will be carried next week by residents hoping North Port and Sarasota County commissioners will think outside the box and reopen the Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa soon.

A group of about 150 people meet weekly to discuss how to rally and reopen the Springs, which was closed on June 30 by its co-owners, the city and the county, after the two governments could not secure a short-term operator for the 81-acre day spa. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, group members and anyone who wants to join them will protest peacefully on U.S. 41 near Warm Mineral Springs Motel and Ortiz Boulevard.
