SARASOTA COUNTY — During a Tuesday workshop, the Sarasota County School Board received a positive preliminary budget update from staff: According to Al Weidner, deputy chief financial officer for the district, the ending fund balance through June 30, 2014, will be $2,122,314 higher than originally estimated.
“The original, unassigned fund balance amount we were going to use was $9.2 million, but revising that figure takes us to $7.1 million,” he told the board. “That takes us to 9.27 percent, which is in the upper range of our fund balance policy of 7.25 (percent) to 10 percent.”
