NORTH PORT — White lights adorned palm and oak trees on the grounds in front of North Port City Hall as a 30-foot Christmas tree was illuminated this week to kick off the holidays.

According to city Building Official Scott Williams, 42 palms, 16 oaks and the holiday evergreen tree were decorated with lights on the City Hall campus this month. The city subcontracted the work to Trimmers Holiday Decor of Sarasota for $10,220, according to the Finance Department. The city paid to have the company decorate, and then in mid-January, to take down the rented lights.
