The Florida Forest Service will be conducting a prescribed burn today, Monday, Dec. 9, in the Myakka State Forest. The 250-acre burn will be in the south central part of the forest, close to Winchester Road and River Road. A smoke column will likely be visible to travelers along US 41 and River Road and to residents of the city of North Port.
Staff from Sarasota County Emergency Services and Natural Resources will also be conducting a controlled burn today on the Carlton Reserve. The 150-acre burn will be in the central part of the reserve, approximately 3½ miles north of I-75. It is possible a smoke column will be visible from I-75 and the city of North Port.
