SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota Military Academy is on track to open a middle school in time for the 2014-2015 school year after county commissioners unanimously approved a rezoning and special exception application Wednesday for the campus’ site.
Two different parcels — 2 acres zoned “open use, rural” and 8.5 acres previously zoned “industrial and rural” — will now be home to Sarasota Military Academy Prep. The charter school is slated to open in August 2014 with about 425 students in grades six through eight — at buildout, 725 students are planned for. It will be located at the intersection of Fruitville Road and Bethel Lane in Sarasota.
